Ask-A-Capper: "When you're with a friend who's not in a wheelchair, do you ever feel like other people you encounter address the friend more directly than you when they're talking to or about you?" - L. Moran
Oh Boy now here is a topic I'll rampage about!!! This is a common problem, the talk around "how's he doing?" "I'm fine lady and I am right here". It is a common misconception that because we are in wheelchairs we are unconscious, out of our heads, vegetables. We are not that way most of the time.
Now I know its human that when in an uncomfortable situations to skirt the issue, to try and avoid saying something awkward. So people try to avoid asking a person in a wheelchair "how are you?" because he or she is in a chair they must be doing horrible, so that question is out. But try that question it works, even though we are in chairs we can be doing good, and yes even feel good.
Good question
