I posted your open letter to the official MAG forums - then saw you already had a post there so I bumped that as well ;)
I think the main point in "selling" this idea is to make the business people holding the purse strings realize that having this feature will pay itself back in goodwill and increased market (not only handicapped but also others who want to remap their keys).
You also said on another thread that quality control might be a challenge. This can be avoided by having a disclaimer that if a player remaps the buttons they are on their own and all possible combinations might not work properly.
Games already have disclaimers for flashing lights and epilepsy, so having such a disclaimer in the Options panel of games is not a big deal.
Finally, the marketing department can capitalize on this by having "remappable keys" or similar text or icon next to the bluray and PEGI and 720p icons.
This is a win-win for everyone!
